About the design
The wolf got the moon first. The cat was always going to take it back. This is the same cold-moonlight airbrush scene, the same coarse overspray and hard-edged mist on near-black, the same monochrome chill of white, silver, ash grey and pale ice blue with violet and teal hiding in the shadows — except the animal on the rock isn't performing anything. It's a house cat, and it is not impressed by the moon so much as informing it of something.
Nineteen pounds of muscle can clear six times its body length without a running start. Egyptians buried them with the reverence owed to something that outranked them, and some cultures still won't say a black cat's name after dark, just in case it's listening. The howl in this artwork isn't a plea. It's a notice. Some animals answer to the moon. This one just lets it know it's been seen.
