About the design

The narwhal's tusk is just a tooth, grown long and spiraled through the upper lip for reasons no one has fully settled. It can run nine feet, sometimes more, on an animal that spends its life under pack ice where nobody is around to admire it. The body looks built for jousting. It's built for diving a mile down into total dark and finding squid by sound alone.

For centuries traders sold that tusk to European courts as unicorn horn, supposedly worth more than gold, said to cure poison and prove a kingdom's wealth. The narwhal never once tried to correct them. Some animals howl for attention. This one doesn't need yours.
