About the design
The axolotl never finishes growing up. It keeps its larval body for life: feathery external gills, a permanent grin, four stubby legs that never got the memo to mature. It looks like it couldn't survive a bad afternoon. Then it regrows a severed limb, a crushed tail, even pieces of its own heart, and goes back to smiling.
Aztec myth says the god Xolotl turned himself into an axolotl to dodge death outright, and got away with it. They say his descendants are still down there, refusing to grow up, howling at the moon like the joke never got old. You'd call that arrested development. The axolotl calls it a strategy.
