About the design

A bear does not howl to be heard by the pack. There is no pack. It marks a tree, rubs its back against bark ten feet up, and moves on, leaving a warning at a height no rival can fake. That single mark ends most arguments before they start.

People built the whole idea of hibernation around a body that looks slow and isn't: a bear can outrun a horse over short ground and break a car door open like a snack wrapper. Old stories still call it a mountain spirit that walks like a man when nobody's looking, and shamans supposedly wore its claws to borrow that authority. You don't share territory with a bear. You just get to know where the tree is.
