About the design
The fox never had the wolf's jaw or the wolf's chorus. It has a stolen egg, a locked henhouse, and a way in anyway. Farmers call it vermin. Naturalists call it opportunistic. The fox calls that a difference of opinion.
It looks like a small dog that lost an argument with a cat. It hunts by pouncing straight up and dropping like a dart, and it can hear a heartbeat under snow. In Japanese folklore the kitsune supposedly lives centuries and grows a tail for every hundred years, each one proof it outlasted something smarter-looking. The moon is just where it goes to gloat.
