About the design

The tapir has nothing left to prove. That nose does real work: gripping figs, steering through river crossings, catching the scent of a jaguar already downwind. It looks slow, built like a barrel with a hose stapled to the front. It swims faster than it walks and can outrun almost anything with legs.

Amazonian hunters say it walks paths no one else can find, invisible to anyone who means it harm. Under this moon, in this cold light, it isn't howling out of fear. It already knows something you don't.
